A web site is the back bone of your business. While not impossible, marketing without one greatly decreases your chances of ever earning enough just for the time you spend on-line. Your website is your 'Show Case' and it works for you every minute of every day. How long does your ad on an FFA or free advertising page last? Count it in seconds! Safe-Lists? Who reads all those e-mails, do you read the hundreds you get back? Even if all you have are affiliate links, you need some place to 'centralize' them.
Also a website gives you the advantage of controlling those links by not advertising your affiliate codes letting people 'chop' them off your ads thereby eliminating your hard work and commisions. You will have a way to make your own ad, rather than the same ad every body else sends out, that won't get read anyway. Are two I recommend, not just because I use both, but they each are fully loaded including Autoresponders. Third Sphere cost a bit more but has an affiliate program to pay users back. Smart Site has more hosting options, but there are plenty of hosting sites out there. Just be sure to check out all the features before making a choice. The wrong choice will cost you in excesive 'downtime', limited transfer rates and e-mail accounts, poor 'back room' managing of your site to make changes, edit and update or even to upgrade when the time comes.Web Hosting Revenue In case you aren't sure about a webhost...Become your own! List Building:
There are many ways to go about building a list. What you need is to find the best way that works for you. Not eveyone has the same amount of time or resources into making them all work. Trying to list each option here would make for a very long page. But don't overlook something because some 'guru' says don't waste your time on them. Remember, they started out at 'zero' as well.
Here are things that do work, some better than others and if they didn't work, they wouldn't be around. FFA sites, Classified sites, Auto Surf sites (some pay in cash, not just earned clicks), Lead generation list (be careful with these, know who you are dealing with before buying leads), Lead capture pages (or a Squeeze page), Submit your own articles, Run your own e-zine/newsletter, Paid ads in others e-zines/newletters and/or Swap ads, Link exchanges, Safe List advertising, Add a signature file to all your e-mails, Banner advertising and many ways off-line as well. Flyers, Business cards, Swap boards in the grocery store, Newspapers, Bumper stickers and any other way you can think of. Heck, there are people being paid to walk around with ads tatooed on their foreheads! So use your imagination, don't just blindly follow some hot shot with a new software program that promises untold fortunes using just their product. You'll need to use a few different ways. Don't be afraid of being a little different. You might be the last snowflake to fall in a storm, but being orange, you'll be noticed.
Learn to use PPC (pay per click) like Google Adwords or Yahoo. Get a free Google Adsense account and put those ads on your site pages. Just be aware, Google isn't the only game in town.
Your own opt-in list is the safest, and most responsive. It takes time and work but well worth the effort. Which is another case to have your own website. Where you set up a lead capture page with an autoresponder. It could be a sign up to your newsletter, when they buy your product, download your information or ask you a question. You control it, not somebody else.
Now, autoresponders are a dime a dozen, like free websites. My advice here - do not use those 'free' services... They will have someone else's ad attached to them. You'll be advertising for someone else, you won't look very professional, and since your list is the most important part of your business, skimp here and you'll forever regret it.I highly recommend AWeber because it's simply the best. They have a better relationship with all the ISP's than any other and that means more of your e-mail will get through. More messages out, more get read and the more sales you can make. I've tried those other systems, but wished I hadn't been so cheap now.

If you are a bit more serious about getting 100% real opt-in leads and building your list of customers, then join some of the JV Giveaways as a contributor. Aweber I mentioned autoresponders above, but I can't emphasize enough how important a reliable system is to your business. It's where your list of customers is held, and trying to go cheap or heaven forbid, use a free AR, and putting that list in danger is a real bizz killer. You need your messages to get to your list and you need a system that will grow with you, not get blocked for spamming as that's what happens if you go as a cheapskate because ISP's will see you as a spammer if you mail out too many messages at once.
You won't have much of a business if Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and Comcast mark you as a spammer. Who are you going to e-mail your messages to then? It's just too important to skimp on this detail.
If you don't like Aweber, then go with Getresponse as both of these companies work with the major ISP's and will get your messages through the systems.
I don't recommend using your website's AR or loading one onto your website for the same reasons. You will get blacklisted and watch your business go down the drain. Then, you'll have to go to one of the above companies and ask your list to re-subscribe. Sorry to say, but very few ever do and you'll lose a big portion of your hard earned list.
Start out right from the beginning and you'll not have to deal with that, it's a BIG deal, too by the way.
