Hope all is well and good your way.
I know this is getting out late, but there
is a LOT of info in this issue and after I
pulled the muscles in my back, hip and leg
down to my knee, I can't sit in one position
very long. Tried to catch my balance slipping
on snow with a floor jack in my hands helping
a friend change a flat tire. Would have been
better off just falling down probably.
Such is the way things go. So if I've made
a few mistakes through out this, bear with me.
I can't sit long enough to go thru it all, or
stand, walk, crawl, move or not move or lie down :(

Then again, you might just want to see what the link goes
to before you click on it, because as some marketers like to
do, they trick you, because once clicked on, you are cookied
to them for affiliate payouts instead of someone you'd rather
see get it.
Or, you know, those type emails with no hint to what you're
getting into. Maybe like the launches everyone gets 20 emails to!
Anyway, I have not tried this out yet, just saw it today, but
it's supposed to 'unlock' those cloaked links showing you the
actual link as if it were not cloaked.
Plus, you can easily add LongURL support to your own website
using the LongURL jQuery plugin. Might be useful to your visitors
or just for yourself.

The Top 3 Money-Making "To Do" Activities

I've always been impressed with those who can take overwhelming
things and handle them with ease and poise. It never seemed to
work that way for me, until I discovered the secret for tackling
those daunting tasks.
The secret is simple: make things simple!
With just about every major undertaking, things can be simplified
into a handful of "core" components. That makes them manageable.
Manageable fosters productivity simply because I can work on
something that seems accomplishable. And when productivity goes
up, desired results come.
I received the following question from one of my clients...
"If you have to pick, what would you say are the top 2 or 3 things
we should concentrate on? I've heard the domain/site(blog) are the
most important, then others say writing info products, others say
lists. For short term and long term investment, what is the most
important things to be working on?"
This client wants things simplified. And rightly so. He knows the
secret to success is getting things down into manageable chunks.
So, what are these core practices for building an internet business?
There are three things - and three things only - that you need to
concentrate on with your business...
1. Offer Development.
You cannot make money online unless you have an OFFER. It's that
simple. Unless there is some way for income to be generated, you
can't get paid. End of discussion. Every business is founded upon
a revenue-generating offer. Now, this can either be your own offer
(small reports, ebooks, membership sites, coaching/consulting,
advertising, etc.) or something you promote as an affiliate and
earn revenue for referred sales.
2. List Marketing.
The fortune is in the list. You've heard it an untold number of
times in the past, right? Building and profiting from opt-in
lists should be a major priority on your schedule. You need to
devote yourself to attracting new subscribers and then getting
all of your subscribers to spend money with you ... by purchasing
your OFFERS (see #1 above).
3. Traffic.
The third and final thing you need to concentrate on is "traffic".
This includes both traffic GENERATION (getting visitors to a site)
and traffic CONVERSION (getting that traffic to buy). This includes
things like: starting an affiliate program, buying PPC ads,
participating in joint ventures, utilizing viral marketing tools,
raising your visitor value, tweaking your sales pages, etc.
With each of these categories, you have a variety of options to
choose from in directing your attention. It would be foolish for
me to say "grow your affiliate program" as your number # traffic
activity since I don't know if you even have your own product to
sell. That's why I don't recommend specific activities, but rather
three key categories of business-building.
With each of these categories, find 2-3 activities to work on each
week and you should see results in a short amount of time.
I recommend you work on offer development every Monday, list
marketing every Tuesday, and traffic generation every Wednesday.
If you just spend a couple hours each of these days working on
these core parts of your business, sales should come.
In a nutshell -
- Find an offer to promote.
- Setup a list to promote the offer.
- Drive traffic to the list opt-in page.
Keep it simple. Keep it successful.

SEO And Traffic Basics For Your Business
(Reciprocal Link Building and Monitoring Your Website)

In the last newsletter an overview of Submitting to the Search Engines
and The Importance of Referrer Logs were covered.
In this issue we'll go over Reciprocal Link Building and how it will
help your website ranking, plus Monitoring Your Website by going over
some tools that you can use to do that.
First - Reciprocal Link Building - When it comes to SEO, reciprocal link
building goes a long way towards giving your site good rankings. Especially
if your site is relevant or related to the topic and subject of the site
you are linking to.
It is also a very effective way to drive traffic to your site!
Reciprocal links have been around a long time. Unfortunately, they are an often overlooked or an under-used method and as with any strategy
there are advantages and disadvantages involved.
So, should you be using reciprocal linking in your marketing strategy?
Well, here's what you should consider about reciprocal linking and how
it can effect your business.
Here's a question for you ...
How many times have you searched for a Website to link to only to find out
that they don't even have a links page?
Of those that do, few have an area on their website that actually Welcomes you to request a link trade. It seems these websites are missing
the boat when it comes to the World Wide Web's shockingly efficient
linking system.
Before you begin your reciprocal linking plan, here are some things that
you should consider:
- Make sure that you are linked to relevant sites, meaning
you both have the same subject matter and at the same time
all the links are also related to each other.
- Remember that it's more about quality than quantity when
it comes to reciprocal link building. Look for quality sites
that are related to your topic.
- Keep in mind that this is a long and sometimes frustrating
process because you still have to check to see if other websites
have agreed to the link exchange and you will need to check
periodically to see if the link to your site is still present
on the websites that you have made exchanges with.
- Be prepared for rejection. Some webmasters may turn down your
request. If that's the case, you may want to take their link off
your site.
- Examine the other sites link pages - are they indexed and
visited by the major search engines? If the site doesn't have
good rankings it probably won't do you any good to link to them.
- When requesting a link exchange, consider the links that are
already displayed on the other site. They should be relevant to
your website. Also take the time to check and make sure that the
site doesn't have a lot of broken links - this will effect the
way in which search engines spider the site.
- Another thing to consider is how many links are displayed on
the page you were thinking about linking to. It is a good idea
not to link with a page that has more than 30 to 40 links on it.
Be sure to follow the basic link exchange rules set in place by the sites you want to trade links with.
The site that you are exchanging links with should exist in major
search engines and have good traffic ranking. Alexa.com is a great
way to check out a site's rankings and traffic flow.
All and all, reciprocal linking can be a good, free way of achieving
high website ranking, but keep in mind that you should periodically
check the status of your links and site rankings, so that you can get
the most out of your efforts.
Lets move on to Monitoring Your Website and some of the tools you can use to effectivly 'Stay in Touch' with your site.
Chances are if you've been online for awhile you know that you just
can't build your website, plug in the right keywords and expect your
traffic and ranking will remain constant.
It takes a bit more effort than that. You have to keep track of your results, plus keep a sharp eye on the competition.
Besides which, how will you ever know if you DID plug in all the right
keywords if you don't monitor them for their effectivness?
Doing this doesn't have to be a complicated process. There are many
useful and free tools to help you find out what exactly what is going
on. I mentioned previously that things change, new 'buzzwords' appear
to describe something as our everyday language changes constantly.
If you use PPC (Pay Per Click) like Adwords, Yahoo and MSN etc., you
MUST monitor your keywords or you'll end up paying out a fortune and
wonder why you never make any sales. They don't really care since they
are out to make money and it's YOUR responcibility to oversee your
business, not theirs. And while we are at this point, I'll give you a
tip: You don't necessarily have to be in the number 1 position, just
be on the first page of search results - # 3, 4 and 5 are also very
good positions and don't cost as much out of your pocket. Chances are,
like me, you don't have the budget to be number 1 anyway.
But let's get out of that for now as that's a whole 'nother story.
Here is a quick list of some of the tools that you can use to keep
track of various areas your site (these are from digitalpoint.com,
and by no means the only tools to use, they have other tools too,
but they give you an idea of things you can track, plus they are
free, but do look around for others you may like better).
1. Keyword Ranking Tool - Allows you to track historical
search engine result placement data for any keyword you choose:
Now, of course there are many more tools available other than the ones
from digitalpoint.com. For instance, I like to use this tool -
Xenu's Link Sleuth, it allows you to test your websites for broken links:
This tool will show you a map of where your visitors are
from and even tells you the info on the last 100 people who
visited.
Actually, it's good information you can put to use, knowing
where in the world everyone is coming to your site from.
Use the info for targeted marketing, security measures
and whatever else you might think of.
There is also software that you can download and use to monitor multiple
processes at one time. Most of them come with free trials and will require
a slight learning curve, so that you can use them effectively.
The one I use to monitor pay per click campaigns is PPC Oracle. It tells
you what keywords are working, which are not, what you are paying for each
keyword or phrase, sales made by and even generates a new keyword list optimized for controlling your ROI (rate of return) so you are making money
not throwing it away.
To find a piece of software that will work for you just do a search and
you will discover that there are many available.
I guess the point that I am trying to make is that it is very important to monitor your website, whether you use free tools or paid
software. And be very careful of your linking strategies and be sure
those are monitored as well.
